"It [my newspaper] will always fight for progress and reform, never tolerate injustice or corruption, always fight demagogues of all parties, never belong to any party, always oppose privileged classes and public plunderers, never lack sympathy with the poor, always remain devoted to the public welfare, never be satisfied with merely printing news, always be drastically independent, never be afraid to attack wrong, whether by predatory plutocracy or predatory poverty."
~Joseph Pulitzer, Retirement Speech
Joseph Pulitzer revolutionized the journalism and newspaper industry through the introduction of distinct journalistic styles that are still used today. Pulitzer dedicated his life fighting the corrupt, the wealthy, and the social evils by exposing and delivering societal truths to the common people through his writings. He pioneered the techniques of undercover journalism, sensationalism, and the use of satirical comics in newspapers to convey controversial topics. After his death, the world's first school of journalism was set up through the donations he had left at Columbia University. His revolutionary journalism techniques and his quest to deliver the truth of society left an ever-lasting legacy on the world today.
